John Mayfield is the founder of Audio Book Radio. He worked in London between 1988 and 1999 as a sound engineer and a director of audio books. During that period he was involved on more than 2,000 titles. Actors recorded and directed include Sir Derek Jacobi, Prunella Scales, Anna Massey and Sir John Gielgud. Spike Milligan, Laurie Lee and Alan Bennett are among the many authors John has worked with reading their own titles.
Co-Partner Dave Benton got his first taste of presenting and producing with Kick FM in Plymouth. He later joined Radio Avalon where he became chief producer and studio manager. Dave also spent eight years with the BBC working as a producer and a presenter and has overseen productions of radio drama and live theatre in the UK and the USA. He has links with many media and theatre groups, including The Old Vic in London and has produced and presented his own radio shows at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
